22 Oct 1998:  This view is of the firebox underneath the cab on the left side of the locomotive.  The 20 or so tilted air intakes are designed to work with the rotary oil burner, swirling the atomised oil and air to achieve a more intense and complete combustion of the fuel, thereby maximising efficiency.
